Client Assessment Time

Spread the love

personal_trainer_with_clientWith kids going back to school, vacations ending, and clients getting back on track with their fitness routines, September is the prime month to cover fitness assessments, body comp testing, and to update training plans.  Make sure both your group trainers/instructors and your personal trainers have the appropriate forms available to perform these assessments with their clients. Your staff should also be aware of the process they should follow in asking for, receiving, processing and using these assessments.

Example Group Training Assessments
(from our Group Training Director – Trevor Thomas):

  • Core Training: Hover for Time
  • Indo-Row: 500m Row for Time
  • Muscle Tone and Sculpt: Max Push-ups
  • Muscle Strength and Power: 1 min Jump Rope for Revolutions
  • Adrenaline/Interval Cycling: 5 min stage for distance

We provide a group assessment binder and place it in the group exercise room. The binder contains alphabetized sheets per the client’s first name.  Blank copies are in the front of the binder. We ask that our group instructors complete these assessments over the next 2-weeks.

In addition, Trevor has asked our trainers to use  the questionnaire below to provide feedback for our trainers to improve their training methods and to make necessary changes in their clients’ goals.  If you receive the answers to these questions it is much easier to revamp your clients training plans. Remember asking your clients for 30 minutes of their banked sessions for programming will make a HUGE difference in the overall work you to together for months to come. Once you have everything set up….give your clients a copy of their training plan so that they have something tangible for the time you used.

Client Planning Questionnaire:

  • What constructive feedback can you lend me?  Is there anything I could be doing differently to help guide your health and fitness journey more effectively?
  • What aspects of our training sessions are effective?
  • Is there anything that you would like to focus on more or less during our sessions?
  • Are there any injuries or joints/muscles that have been feeling irritated?
  • Would you like to do quarterly fitness testing and measurements to track your progress?    Yes  No
  • What are your goals for the next 3 months?  Be as specific as possible.
  • How much time can you devote to your health and fitness?  Be specific per day.

  • If you feel great and are happy with what we are doing that is OK too!

If you need any help with the questions above just let me know!

If there is a time that you will not be able to come in for your regular training session, I would like to suggest using an hour of your time for me to plan for the upcoming months.  With your approval, answers to the above questions, and your commitment, this plan will enable us to hit the next couple months and 2016 with a VENGEANCE!!!

So make sure you and your staff are geared up and ready to conduct assessments for both your group and personal training clients. This is a VERY important part of your job and will go a long way in keeping your clients happy, engaged and seeing the results they are looking for!
