    Boot Camps from A to Z (Running a Successful Boot Camp Program Indoors or Outdoors – Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall)
    Sherri McMillan (Active)
    Learn how to effectively design a full body cardio and muscle-conditioning Boot Camp style workout that you can offer Indoors or Outdoors. Using tools such as exercise tubing, medicine balls and the tools that nature provides for us, you will learn a programming option that clients love. Learn how to design, structure and market Boot Camp programs with minimal start-up costs to maximize participation and financial success.


    The Barefoot Trainer
    Dr. Jeni Gall (Active)

    Kick off your shoes and explore movement from the ground up in this fun and foot friendly session. You will learn how training in bare feet helps build strength, agility, neural sequencing and mental focus and can make a huge difference in everything from bunions to back pain. We will address the science and hype behind barefoot training and use perspectives from yoga, martial arts, dance, natural movement, and physical therapy to discuss the pros and cons of encouraging your clients to shed their shoes. Session will include active participation in a variety of mobility and balance drills, as well as a discussion of how to properly prepare your clients for increasing their barefoot activities.

    Muscle Run
    Sherri McMillan (Active)
    Learn how to design an effective running program that incorporates strength training.  Get on the cutting edge and get your clients outside and experiencing the joy of running. This is a practical session that will alternate between bouts of running and strength training outdoors and will require no more than 5 minutes of running at a time.


    Exercise for Osteoporosis Prevention

    In this session we will review bone physiology, the science of osteoporosis prevention and we will finish with a sample exercise program. Leave empowered to help your clients strengthen their skeletons!

    Multidirectional Hip Competency for Optimal Performance
    Dr. Jeni Gall (Active)
    This session is an exploration of movement around the hips. You will learn how training multiplanar and diagonal “hip competency” helps guard against low back pain, hip bursitis, labral tears, piriformis syndrome, and knee injuries and improves functional capacity for pushing, pulling, carrying, walking, running and climbing. Drawing on perspectives from a variety of exercise systems, we will practice ground movements and complex mobility drills, dynamic warm-ups, balance challenges and push/pull/carry sequences designed to get you thinking about the complex role of the hip in optimizing functional movement and athletic performance. Expect a combination of discussion and movement practice.


    Stopping the Clock: Staying Young at Any Age!

    During this session you will learn the fundamental lifestyle and exercise strategies for advantageously modifying the aging process in order to keep yourself and your clients functionally young.

    Gentle But Powerful Program Design
    Sherri McMillan (Lecture)
    With the popularity of HIIT, Tabata, CrossFit, and other aggressive workout formats, the general population is getting the message that you have to go hard all the time to see results. As a result, chronic injuries to the knees, back and shoulders are surfacing. This session will review techniques for helping clients achieve life changing results without beating them up and breaking them down. Working smarter and not always harder can provide a workout that is gentler on the body, yet effective and powerful.

    Recap, Door Prizes and Certificate Hand Out

    What to do to be prepared: For our out of town guests, if you are flying in, you should book your flights arriving into the Portland Oregon Airport (PDX). The event location is about a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport.

    What to bring:
    Bring lots of snacks and water. Be sure to wear active gear, running shoes and bring changes of clothes and a jacket. (Some of your sessions may be outdoors and our gym can be a bit cool so bring warm clothes!)

    Bring a pen and note-pad.

    Special instructions: NOTE: Northwest Personal Training does not issue refunds for events. In the event that you are unable to make this event we can issue you a credit for a future event or product if we are notified at least 24 hours prior to the event.
