    We are happy to announce Helen Vanderburg as our guest presenter! 

    Helen Vanderburg, BPE, is owner of Heavens Elevated Fitness, Yoga and Spin Studio and the creator and program developer of Fusion Fitness Training. With a career in fitness beginning in 1982 and experience as a group fitness instructor, yoga teacher, Pilates teacher, personal trainer, and educator, she is an innovator in the fitness industry. 

    Helen holds a bachelor's degree in kinesiology physical education and is certified in yoga, Pilates, TRX, ACE group fitness, and several CanFitPro fitness disciplines. She has received numerous industry awards, including the IDEA Instructor of the Year in 2005 and CanFitPro Presenter of the Year in 1996, 2006, 2013, and 2015. Don't miss your chance to learn from Helen Vanderburg...she is one of the best!

    No weights… just hard-core results. This bodyweight workout combines core conditioning and muscle defining exercises from Pilates, flexibility and mobility from yoga and fluidity of movement from fitness and Barre techniques to define, align and sculpt the body. Choreographed to inspiring music, experience a new, innovative and challenging bodyweight group class. You will leave this session with unique ideas to give your clients a total body workout, improved posture and D’Fine the body.

    Intermittent Fasting is becoming more and more popular. In this session we will separate fact from fiction by doing a deep dive into the research. What are the potential benefits, drawbacks, long-term and short-term consequences? Is intermittent fasting better for weight loss than traditional diets? What type of intermittent fasting is best? What are the different types? How does intermittent fasting work? We will cover all this and more!

    Experience a high energy interactive team training workout in Squad Team Training. Explore partner and teamwork workout designs to bring back to your small group and group training session. This workout builds cooperation, comradery and team spirit. Learn how to easily and quickly set up team training workouts to enhance client satisfaction and longevity at the same time giving them incredible results. This session is fun and effective!

    No Floor Core: Creating a Strong Center for Lifting, Pushing, Pulling and Carrying
    Dr. Jeni Gall, Physical Therapist (Active)
    This session is an exploration of integrated core strength as it relates to pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying in the gym and beyond. You will learn techniques for improving timing and sequencing of core activation in a variety of movement planes and positions to optimize efficiency, prevent injury, and progress your clients toward training with heavier loads. We will explore breathing techniques,dynamic warm-ups, transitional movements, and push/pull/lift/carry sequences in this fun and challenging session designed to reinvigorate your training and help you make new connections in your own body. All this without every lying down or getting on your hands and knees! Expect a combination of active movement and discussion.

    Schwinn® Cycling: Class Design Crunch Time
    Helen Vanderburg (Active)
    Every instructor knows that an awesome class comes from preparation and planning; every great instructor knows how to develop that class in less time! This workshop is all about working smarter, not harder to put great rides together. You’ll learn multiple class design tricks of the trade and walk away with a library of 25 mix and match stages you can use immediately to create a ride from scratch or re-energize a well-loved workout. Includes a full workout complete with detailed class design notes.

    Program Design For Triathlon Clients

    Is it time for your client to set a big goal? Are they ready to try a Tri?! This session will explore triathlon basics, how to help a client set up a training plan and how to design their sessions to build triathlon specific strength and prevent injuries.

    Fascial Line Flexibility Flow - NEW

    This full body mobility session will take you through static, active and dynamic stretching sequences that target the fascial lines of the body. Gain understanding and practice fascial line movement patterns to enhance performance, decrease tension and increase mobility. This mobility-based session is suited for group fitness, personal trainers, yoga and Pilates teachers.

    Ground Movements and Get Ups: Essential Skill Building for Clients of All Athletic Abilities
    Dr. Jeni Gall, Physical Therapist (Active)
    This session is all about getting on the ground and getting back up again. The fitness industry is seeing a trend toward functional fitness training and ground flows. At the same time, falls are the leading cause of death in adults over 65, and rates of fall related injuries in this population continue to rise at an alarming rate. This means fitness professionals are perfectly positioned to impact the community by making ground work and transitions an integral part of program planning for every client. Through fun drills and challenges, you will learn simple to complex ways to use "get ups" and floor mobility sequences to help your clients prevent falls, sharpen their balance reactions, improve hip flexibility and strength, and become more capable and confident athletes. These skills can be used for home programs and personal training sessions and require no additional equipment or set up time. Expect a combination of active movement and discussion.

    What to do to be prepared:

    For our out of town guests, if you are flying in, you should book your flights arriving into the Portland Oregon Airport (PDX). The event location is about a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport.

    What to bring:
    Bring lots of  water. Be sure to wear active gear, running shoes and bring changes of clothes and a jacket.

    Bring a pen and note-pad.

    Multnomah Athletic Club requires workout attire to be covered up (sweat suits etc.) when walking within the facility. Please enter at that "Athletic Entrance". Multnomah Athletic Club does not allow outside food. If you would like to bring your own food please make sure to enjoy it outdoors. A lunch buffet will be provided and there is a snack bar where you can purchase food etc. (please bring cash for the snack bar)

    Special instructions: Parking:
    If the MAC parking lots are not full you can park for free. Tell the parking attendant that you are with the Fitness & Training Forum. If the MAC parking lots are full you will be directed to a leased parking lot where you will need to pay $6 for parking (for the day). 


    We will have DVDs, books and some equipment available for purchase and will accept credit cards, checks and cash.

    NOTE: Northwest Personal Training does not issue refunds for events. In the event that you are unable to make this event we can issue you a credit for a future event or product if we are notified at least 24 hours prior to the event.
